Mike Wheaton

Head Coach and Director of Hoop Reel Squamish

Coach Mike grew up in the Niagara Region where from the age of 5 his dad gave him a basketball...not a hockey stick!  His dad's passion and involvement in the game was passed on to him.  He played for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Welland, Ontario where basketball was everything.   During those days he was also involved in coaching and refereeing at the youth level.  Then 5 years ago he returned to his roots by starting the first basketball association, SYBA, here in Squamish, where he has coached over 200 youth players.   He has also continued to study the game through BC Basketball Certifications and will soon have his 94feet certification through the OG Phil Handy!   He has enjoyed watching this basketball family grow!  He is excited to bring his coaching style and love of the game to the team.
